A total of 3,222 Jewish aliens arrived in the United States between January 1 and May 31 of this year, according to a report made public by the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society today.
Of the total 1,815 were immigrants, the report stated. The HIAS took custody over 1,732 Jewish aliens pending contact with their relatives.
It was revealed that 47,370 persons had applied to the HIAS information Bureau during the first half of this year. In additikn requests were received from 3,750 persons abroad to locate relatives here.
The Ellis Island Bureau had 3,568 inquiries and served 7,649 kksher meals to those detained on the island. The Sheter Department provided 185,188 meals and 24,004 nights of shelter to Jewish homeless and unemployed
