Some 3,339 American Jews will leave for Israel next month to participate in 47 summer work-study and all year-round programs conducted under the auspices of the Jewish Agency for Israel. A great majority of these people–2,997–will be high school and college students. Of the total, 2,694 will participate in summer projects of from seven to 10 weeks’ duration, and 645 have enrolled in longer study and work programs of from six months to a year. According to Isadore Hamlin, Jewish Agency-American Section executive director, another estimated 1,500 youth will be in Israel this summer on programs sponsored by other major U.S. Jewish organizations, and U.S. and Israel educational institutions.
