More than 350 prominent leaders in all walks of American life joined today in signing a Statement to the American People on the 54th anniversary of the dedication of the Statue of Liberty. The statement, circulated by the American Committee for Protection of Foreign Born, called particular attention to “reactionary forces, seeking to undermine our democracy,” and who “are threatening the foreign born with the same kind of oppression from which they fled in Europe,” and endorsed the campaign for American citizenship and citizenship rights initiated by the Committee.
