A group of 350 American and Canadian Jewish leaders arrived yesterday in Israel on the 1978 United Jewish Appeal Prime Minister’s Mission which launches UJA’s celebrations of “30 years of partnership” with the people of Israel. In four days of intensive touring and top-level briefings, the Mission, led by UJA general chairman Leonard R. Strelitz and executive vice-chairman Irving Bernstein, will retrace the path from destruction to redemption.
A UJA communique says the participants in the Mission are all key workers in UJA local and national campaigns and major contributors and each personally was invited to participate by Premier Menachem Begin. The Premier will host the Mission members at a reception and dinner at the Knesset at the close of their stay.
In addition to the Knesset reception and dinner, this year’s Mission includes special ceremonies at the Western Wall and Yad Vashem, visits to southern development towns and kibbutzim, where Mission members will meet on a one-to-one basis with local residents. The Mission will also meet with Foreign Minister Moshe Dayan, Labor Alignment opposition leader Shimon Peres and with Jewish Agency treasurer, Leon Dulzin.
