In twenty Jewish communities throughout the State of Connecticut and in seventeen communities in Eastern Pennsylvania, an effort is now being made by the National Committee of One Thousand to expound the program of the United Synagogue of America, and to increase its membership, according to a statement given out today by A. B. Cohen, national chairman.
The National Committee of One Thousand was organized several months ago for the purpose of stimulating interest in traditional Judaism throughout the country, and more particularly to lend aid and encouragement to the smaller communities in the furtherance of their Jewish religious endeavor. In the course of the past several months regional conferences were held in Philadelphia for the Jewish communities of Eastern Pennsylvania and in Hartford for the Jewish communities of Connecticut.
Rabbi Charles I. Hoffman of Newark is arranging a conference for the Jewish communities in New Jersey to take place in Newark all day Sunday, December 28th. Out of this conference it is hoped will come a state-wide organization, given over to a study of the more immediate religious needs of the smaller Jewish communities in New Jersey, and also to carry out the general principles for which the United Synagogue stands.
