The four-year sentence passed on Shlomo Elazar a Sephardic Jew of Jaffa, for the attempted murder of a Jaffa Arab on August 25 was yesterday reduced to six months by the Court of Appeal. Eli Ash argued that the lower court in passing the sentence, had stated that it did not believe the witnesses for the prosecution. The Court of Appeal allowed this appeal, holding the accused guilty of possessing firearms.
Simultaneously the Court of Appeal increased the sentence of Kemal Kader from seven to fifteen years for the murder of Rosen, an old Jew who was the first to be killed in Jaffa on August 25. The Court held that the case was similar to that of Mamaan’s murderers in which the death penalty had not been imposed as the prisoner had not originally been charged with murder.
