As many as forty or fifty Jewish refugees from Germany apply at the Swiss border daily, pleading for admission in order to escape being interned in concentration camps, according to an official statement issued by the border police today.
Published in Swiss newspapers, the statement declared that “the number of Jewish refugees without visible means of subsistence, who attempt to cross the Swiss frontier, has been greatly increasing during recent weeks.”
“It has often happened,” the police communique said, “that between forty and fifty of such unfortunates have been seeking Swiss protection in a single day in order to escape being put in concentration camps or an even worse fate. The majority of them are young men who are neither politically nor otherwise suspect and whose only guilt was that they had one or two Jewish parents.”
