About 400 Jewish immigrants are expected in Canada this week, having left Bremerhaven on the last I.R.O. boat sailing for Canada, it was announced here today. It was also learned that the Canadian Jewish Congress will sponsor the entry of 100 “hard core” DP’s to Canada.
Meanwhile, the Toronto District Labor Council has called on the Trades and Labor Congress of Canada to “press the government for more planning in immigration,” declaring that “the government’s wide open immigration policy is flooding Canada with thousands of immigrants for whom there are no jobs.” Percy Bengough, president of the Trades and Labor Congress of Canada, last week called for a complete ban on immigration during the winter.
