In the presence of 400 Jewish leaders representing twenty-five States and Canada, Mr. Louis Marshall opened the Non-Zionist Conference at the Hotel Biltmore on Saturday evening.
Mr. Marshall’s address, which will be reported in our next issue, surveyed the history of the efforts to enlarge the Jewish Agency, going as far back as the first Non-Partisan Conference held in 1924. After describing the successive sages leading up to the formation of the Joint Palestine Survey Commission, Mr. Marshall gave an account of the inquiry conducted by the experts in Palestine, and submitted the report of the Survey Commission bearing the signatures of Felix M. Warburg, Lord Melchett, Dr. Lee K. Frankel, and Oscar Wasserman, for the consideration of the Conference.
The large number of prominent delegates, the presence of many distinguished visitors as well as of numerous representatives of the press emphasized the unusual importance attached to the Non-Zionist Conference.
