Nearly 400 Jews and more than a score of policemen and soldiers were wounded in the demonstrations following announcement of the Palestine land ordinance, it was announced in the House of Commons today by Colonial Secretary Malcolm MacDonald.
Of the Jewish casualties, two died, 74 sustained serious wounds and 323 were slightly wounded. One hundred and forty Jews were arrested and many of them are awaiting trial, MacDonald reported.
Two British soldiers were slightly injured in the disturbances. Five British policemen received serious and 18 others slight wounds. One Palestine policeman was seriously and one slightly wounded.
The disturbances ceased completely after the debate in Commons on the land act, MacDonald said, adding that no incidents had taken place since March 7.
Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, arrived here today after an absence of two months in the United States. He spent several days in Paris conferring with Zionist leaders and French Government officials.
