The Israel Immigration Office here reported today that about 4,000 Jews were permitted to leave Poland legally from last December to the end of February. Many of the Jews crossed Austria in transports directly bound for Israel, the report stated.
The Immigration Office also said that more than 11,000 displaced Jews left Austria for Israel during 1949. The Israel immigration officials here estimate that there are at present about 4,000 displaced Jews in this country planning to emigrate to the Jewish state. They will be transported to Israel in the course of the current year.
The Immigration Office has started the registration of all sick Jewish DP’s intending to go to Israel under the category of “hard core” cases. It is believed that transfer of all “hard core” Jewish refugees from Austria to Israel will be completed by June of this year.
