Some 4000,000,000 pounds is needed for the development of the southern Negev and the subsequent settlement of 100,000 persons in the region. Mordecal Bentov, Minister for Development, told a meeting of Haifa businessmen and manufacturers today.
Mr. Bentov told the industrialists that the southern desert region held great promise for the development of giant industry in Israel. He stressed the presence of huge phosphate deposits, a large variety of sands for use in glassmaking and the manufacture of china products, and significant deposits of white marble.
