JEWISH SOCIAL SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS WITHIN GERMANY HELPED 4,067 PERSONS TO EMIGRATE DURING THE FIRST SEVEN MONTHS OF 1937, ACCORDING TO A REPORT RECEIVED BY JOSEPH C. HYMAN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE JOINT DISTRIBUTION COMMITTEE. THE HILFSVEREIN DER JUDEN IN DEUTSCHLAND GAVE SERVICE DURING THE SEVEN MONTHS TO 2,284 PERSONS WHO EMIGRATED TO NORTH, CENTRAL AND SOUTH AMERICA, AND OTHER OVERSEAS COUNTRIES, AND 329 PERSONS WHO WENT TO EUROPEAN COUNTRIES OUTSIDE OF GERMANY. THE PALESTINA AMT ASSISTED 1,082 PERSONS TO EMIGRATE TO PALESTINE FROM JANUARY THROUGH JULY, 1937. THE JEWISH MIGRATION COMMITTEE ASSISTED 372 JEWS, LONG RESIDENT IN GERMANY TO RETURN TO THEIR NATIVE COUNTRIES.
OUTSIDE OF GERMANY FROM JANUARY THROUGH MAY, 1937, HIAS-ICA EMIGRATION ASSOCIATION ASSISTED APPROXIMATELY 600 PERSONS, FORMER CITIZENS OR RESIDENTS OF GERMANY, TO EMIGRATE TO EUROPEAN AND OVERSEAS COUNTRIES. VARIOUS OTHER REFUGEE AID COMMITTEES IN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES ASSISTED 134 PERSONS, ALSO FORMER GERMAN CITIZENS OR RESIDENTS, IN THE FIRST FOUR MONTHS OF THE YEAR, TO EMIGRATE TO OTHER LANDS FOR PERMANENT SETTLEMENT.
