The presidents of 4l national Jewish organizations called on President Truman today to act on a five-point program speeding partition of Palestine in accordance with the United Nations decision. The proposals, transmitted through the American Jewish Conference, asked that:

1. The United States take the lead in the Security Council for the immediate organization and dispatch of an international force to Palestine and the allotment of arms for the proposed Jewish militia.

2. The United States urge the U.N. Implementation Commission to proceed to Palestine at once.

3. The United States act together with other U.N. members to halt “threatened aggression” by the Arab states, “in contravention of their obligations under the U.N. Charter.”

4. The United States modify its arms embargo so that arms may be sent immediately from America to those persons who defend the U.N. decision and withheld from those attacking it.

5. The United States protest to the British Government against its failure to discharge its responsibilities for maintaining law and order in Palestine and. its persistent obstruction” to the U.N. decision.

Pointing to the urgency of the problem of security in Palestine until the Jewish state is established, the message declared that the Jews had offered their own manpower for enforcement of partition, but had assumed they would “not have to fight with bare hands.”
