FORTY-ONE CONGRESSMEN PETITIONED SECRETARY OF STATE CORDELL HULL TODAY TO ADVISE THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT THAT THE PROPOSED PARTITION OF PALESTINE WAS “HISTORICALLY AND NATURALLY INAPPLICABLE.”

THE PETITION, PREPARED BY REPRESENTATIVE WILLIAM CITRON (DEM., CONN.) WITH THE COOPERATION OF REPRESENTATIVE JOHN W. MCCORMACK (DEM., MASS.), SAID PARTITION WAS “TOTALLY OPPOSED TO THE SPIRIT AND THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE MANDATE BY THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT.”

EXPRESSING THE BELIEF THAT BRITAIN “HAS NOT FULLY AND JUSTLY CARRIED OUT THE INTENTIONS AND PROMISES SET FORTH IN THE BALFOUR DECLARATION,” THE STATEMENT CHARGED THAT THE MANDATE WAS “NOT PROPERLY CARRIED OUT” AND THAT IMMIGRATION WAS “UNDULY RESTRICTED.”

THE CONGRESSMEN DEPLORED RACIAL AND RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION, AND, DECLARING MEMBERS OF ALL DENOMINATIONS IN THE UNITED STATES “ABHOR” THE OPPRESSION, URGED THAT THE JEWS’ DESIRE FOR A HAVEN IN PALESTINE “SHOULD BE ASSISTED BY ALL HUMANITY.”
