A total of $4,110,000 for the economic development of Israel was announced last night at a dinner at the Americana Hotel inaugurating the 1965 Fall campaign of the Greater New York Committee for State of Israel Bonds. The dinner was a testimonial tribute to Ira Guilden, New York financier and industrialist, who was presented with the Israel Bond Organization’s annual Herbert Lehman Israel Award.
Avaraham Harman, Ambassador of Israel to the United States, lauded the leadership of Mr. Guilden, who is national chairman of the Israel Bond Organization and general chairman of its Greater New York drive. He stressed Israel’s belief that the best way to defend freedom is to continue to build up those institutions which lead toward a creative national life.
