A total of $4,435,440 which breaks all previous records has been raised in the 1965 joint campaign for the Combined Jewish Appeal and the United Israel Appeal. Under the leadership of Henry Blatt, general campaign chairman, the amount raised this year represents an increase of $312,070 over last year’s figure.

Speaking at the closing dinner here last night, Mr. Blatt expressed his deep satisfaction “at being given the honor of leading the community to raise the largest amount ever in the history of our Montreal campaign.” This year’s campaign also maintained the pattern of substantially increasing the results every year since 1955. In the latter year the Montreal campaign raised $2,355,564.

“This campaign was a tremendous experience for me,” Mr. Blatt declared, “as it must have been for every other chairman who preceded me. I want to pay a sincere tribute to every one of my predecessors who have led the way in building our campaign to new heights from year to year. It has been my privilege to build on these past achievements so that I can stand here before you tonight and announce this new campaign peak.”

A special tribute to the “quality of leadership we have had over the years” was paid by Alvin Bronstein, executive director of the joint campaign and of Montreal’s Allied Jewish Community Services in addressing the closing dinner. “It is the kind of leadership which does not relinquish its interest after having reached the top but which retains a vital concern and involvement in our community affairs,” Mr. Bronstein declared. He noted that next year’s campaign will be the 50th United Jewish Community Campaign in Montreal. Nathan Barnett is the campaign director.
