An Institute of Human Relations, to be attended by lay and clerical leaders of the Protestant, Catholic and Jewish faiths from communities in forty-six states, will be convened next Summer, it was announced yesterday by the National Conference of Jews and Christians.
The meeting will be held on the campus of a New England college.
Three hundred communities in which the National Conference is active will be encouraged to work on the creation and demonstration of techniques for education in inter-group relations in preparation for the sessions of the Institute.
Round-table conferences will be held in which community methods for promoting tolerance in schools, clubs, colleges, churches “and other channels” will be considered. Short courses of study and popular lectures will be given.
According to the announcement, the following are some of the topics expected to be discussed:
The lessons to be learned from the situation in other countries; cooperative programs of religious groups on college and university campuses; building appreciation programs of American cultural groups; community programs to improve inter-faith relationships; programs of women’s organizations.
