The Department of Immigration issued a report stating that for the first nine months of 1957 the number of Jewish immigrants admitted to Canada was 4,821. Total immigration for all ethnic origins was 244,266. Though complete figures for 1957 will not be available for some time, an immigration spokesman said today he felt there was a good possibility that Jewish immigration to Canada for the entire year “might well be near the 6,000 mark.”
