The 48th convention of the Workman’s Circle opened here today with 3,000 delegates, guests and representatives of Jewish labor and community organizations attending.
Ephim H, Heshurin, president of the organization, called upon the delegates to “keep the Workmen’s Circle active in the fight against dictatorships and against social or economic discrimination and in justice,” He urged that “Americans offer positive leadership in the realization of the Palestine partition plan and opening the doors of immigration of this and other democratic countries to the DP’s of Europe.” Abe Cahan, editor of the Jewish Daily Forward, and Adolph A. Berle, Jr., chairman of the Liberal Party of New York State, also spoke.
