Dear Mr. Rosenberg:

We are now embarking upon a campaign for $6,000,000 in which I am only too glad to do my humble part. To me, the significant thing in the campaign is the thought of the fact that the Jews of America have at last forgotten their different prejudices for one another an dare all striving for one worthy cause. The Orthodox, the Reform, the Zionists and the non-Zionists, are all working with one idea to help their suffering brethren abroad.

I have taken the Chairmanship of the Manhattan Division along with Mr. James Marshall and Mr. Nathan Straus, Jr., for the reason that I feel that the younger generation should begin to take over the responsibilities of those in our great City, who have done the charitable and philanthropic work and because I wish to do my part. There are too few young Jews who are willing to give up some of their time and pleasures, to help those less fortunate than themselves.

I know that we will raise our quota, for the Jews of this country cannot and will not fail us at a time like this. There is no question that the various phases of the work are both necessary and worth while and although we all hope for the day when our brethren abroad will be self-supporting, we first must finish the work we have started. It has been said, “that we have raised them to their feet,” all that is left is “to teach them to walk.” Will we fail them? The answer must be “No.”

Faithfully yours,

Paul Felix Warburg.
