A Haarlem district court today sentenced two Palestinian hijackers to five years imprisonment for hijacking, arson and illegal possession of arms. The two men, Adnan Ahmed Musa Nuri, 23. and Sami Husayn Tamimah, 21, hijacked a British Airways plane last March and destroyed it by fire after a forced landing at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, the hijackers evacuated the passengers and crew members unharmed before burning the aircraft.
The Dutch government has let it be known that it would prefer the two to serve out their sentences in a country other than The Netherlands, but nothing more specific on this question has been forthcoming. The defense was given 15 days to enter an appeal.
