More than $500, 000 in contributions to the 1959 campaign of the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York were announced at a dinner held last night in the Hotel Pierre under the sponsorship of the American Jewish Congress and in honor of its president, Dr. Joachim Prinz.
A former rabbi in Berlin who was expelled by the Hitler regime in 1937, Dr. Prinz told the 200 guests that the “shocking ignorance” of German youth about the evils of Nazism constitutes the most alarming news out of Germany since the end of World War II. He cited the results of a survey in German high schools, published last week, that indicated nine out of ten students were of the opinion the Nazi era was not as bad as it was made out to be and that in reality Hitler’s achievements were greater than his failings.
