Nearly 500 “illegal returnees” at the Fochrenwald camp for Jewish DP’s have registered in the latest census conducted by the German authorities. A few “stragglers” are expected to register before the month ends.
The German authorities, beside listing the DP’s, warned them that a six-month period of grace granted when they registered in a census last August, expires Feb, 17. After that date they are subject to arrest and deportation for having entered the country without valid German visas. Of the 795 Jews who registered as “illegals” last August, about one-third have been able to emigrate from this country to lands of permanent settlement.
