More than 5,000 Jewish families in Austra face immediate starvation as a result of the political changes which took place in the country during the last week. While the drive to chean out the Socialists from state and municipal officees, now in progress has no ant-semitie basis, a large number of Jews have been dismissed from their employment in state and municipal offices only remotely ennoected with the goven of the dismissed Jews has been replaced by Jewish supporters of the Doilfuss regime. In every case vacancies were filled with non-Jewish adherents of the government.
The new government-appointed administration of Vienna. under the direction of former Vice Chan cellor Richard Schmutz, is vigorously engaged in dismissing all Jewish municipal employees, even from the state insurance an banking enterprises under control or the municipality.
Whether these summaritly dismissed Jewish Workers will be give en a peension or cut off altogather is not yet known. Already heardship and distess among the dismissed Jews is growing at an alarming rate and the Vienna Jewish community has made arrangements to feed the new Jewish poor frorr funds supplied for the purpose by anonymous Jewish bene factors.
BUSINESS APPEALS FRO AID
In addition to these dismisse employees, the Austian business community is undersoing great hardships due to the compete stoppage of bussiness activites dur in the bitter finhting which occurred in the city. The Vienna Jewish community immediately announced that it disassociated itself complet-ly from any such proposed solution for the Austrian Jewish question.
