Five thousand children in synagogues, temples and talmud torahs in New York City, yesterday began rehearsals for the pageant that will depict the history of Jewish philanthropy and will feature a mass religious school lesson in philanthropy. The pageant will be held on Sunday morning, December 3, at the Roxy Theater, Seventh Avenue and Fiftieth Street.
The event is being sponsored by the Junior Federation of the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies, with the assistance of the Jewish Education Association. Governor Herbert Lehman heads the list of sponsors. Israel S. Chipkin, educational director of the Jewish Education Association, is chairman of the program committee, and Miss Leona J. Herrmann, of the Junior Federation, is directing the arrangements for the pageant.
