A gift of $5,000 by Frank Cohen, an insurance executive, has obviated the need for charging admission to the Madison Square Garden Protest meeting next Monday. While the question of the ethics of charging for such admission was under discussion at a meeting of the Committee of 100, which is organizing the demonstration, Frank Cohen solved the difficulty by donating the $5,000 rental and incidental expenses.
Under the sponsorship of the Board of Jewish Ministers of Northern California, an inter-city oratorical contest for boys and girls under 16 from all parts of Northern California will be held in Oakland, Calif., May 7. according to arrangements concluded at a meeting of the board here.
Many cities of Northern California will be represented.
Temple Sinai will be the scene of the contest, the purpose of which is to infuse deeper interest in Jewish subjects in the younger generations. Orations will be limited to topics of Jewish interest.
Rabbi Elliot M. Burstein of this city, chairman of the Board of Ministers, is in charge of the contest.
