There are some 5,000 Jews in Lodz, Poland, and the majority still want to leave for Israel, an immigrant from Poland said today. He was one of a party of 11 Jews from Poland who arrived aboard the S.S. Artza.
The immigrant said that one of the major reasons for the desire of most Jews to leave the city, which was a large Jewish center in pre-war years, was the continued presence of anti-Semitism among the people. This, he stressed, was despite the strong campaign by the Polish authorities against anti-Semitism. He also reported that the number of mixed marriages was increasing in Lodz.
