Alan M. Stroock, president of the American Friends of the Alliance Israelite Universelle, announced today that for the first time in the history of the Alliance the number of students in the schools of the organization throughout the Mediterranean area has passed the 50,000 mark.
The Alliance has 133 schools serving the Jewish populations of 12 countries. About half of these schools function in North Africa and the other half in Israel, Iran and the Arab states.
