Approximately 50,000 Jews from all parts of Palestine visited the Wailing Wall during the observance of Tisha B’ab on Thursday, the Hebrew press here estimates today.
Prominent among the visitors to the Wall were hundreds of Jewish soldiers and members of the women’s auxiliary corps. The traditional prayers were recited by a uniformed Jewish chaplain, after which the soldiers stood at attention and sang “Hatikvah.” The newspapers point out that the observance of Tisha B’ab this year coincided with the 450th anniversary of the expulsion of the Jews from Spain.
