The Palestine government today has granted $500,000 to build new Jewish schoolhouses, but it appears that no sites suitable for building them are available in Jerusalem because of the prohibitive prices of land.
M. M. Ussishkin, director of the Jewish National Fund, informed the press today that land speculation in Palestine will make it difficult for Jews to utilize the government grant in the near future. A huge sum would be required to obtain the sites necessary to build new schoolhouses, in view of the high prices at which land is quoted here.
The government grant was made on the assumption that either the Vaad Leumi or the Jewish National Fund would provide the land necessary for erecting the buildings.
