Leading writers in Israel, members of the presidium of the Jewish Agency and other notables participated here last night in a dinner marking the recent 50th anniversary of the founding of the Y.L. Peretz Writers Verein, the organization of Yiddish writers in the United States. The organization was founded in New York in 1915.
Greetings were brought to the celebration from Mrs. Golda Meir, the ex-Foreign Minister of Israel. Principal speakers included Dov Sadan, professor of Yiddish at the Hebrew University. Shimon Weber, president of the U.S. organization. Dr. Samuel Margoshes of New York, veteran Yiddish journalist. and many other Israeli and American writers. All emphasized the importance of the Yiddish press, the need for its continuation, its activities and its influence on Jewish life in the United States.
