More than 18,000 persons attended the third performance, of the Chanukah Festival for Israel at Madison Square Garden tonight, bringing to $6,500,000 the total of Israel Bond investment funds raised in the New York area in connection with the celebrations. In all, 54,000 persons participated in the three festivals in a demonstration of support for the men and women of Israel.
Speaking at the festival tonight, S, Cecil Hyman, Consul General of Israel, warned against United States appeasement of the Arabs. “America, I think, knows where Israel stands in the world scene,” Mr. Hyman declared, “but I am not sure that America yet understands in its dealings with the Arab dictators that appeasement does not work, that if you begin paying the blackmailers, you can never satisfy them,”
