Some 58 per cent of Arabs summoned in connection with the riots of last August have been convicted while only 12 per cent of Jews summoned were found guilty. The “Palestine Bulletin,” in publishing these facts, quotes also the number of cases which came up before the court up to June 1 this year. A total of 724 Arabs were summoned in the course of the last nine months for offenses connected with the August events, of which 55 were sentenced for murder, 50 for attempted murder, 130 for instigation and looting, 7 for instigation, and 212 for miscellaneous offenses. As compared with these, 161 Jews were summoned, of which only 19 were sentenced, two for murder, one for attempted murder, 7 for looting and arson, and 9 for miscellaneous offenses.
Collective fines were imposed on Hebron and other villages to the extent of $70,000. The villages that were found guilty of sacking Beertuvia were fined $23,500, while those that destroyed Hartuv were ordered to pay $10,000. The collective fine imposed on the attackers of Motza was $7,500.
