A total of 5,983 Jews entered the United States in the first nine months of this year, it was announced today by the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society of America. Of that number, 2,723 were discharged into the custody of HIAS pending their reunion with their families here, according to Abraham Herman, president.
In the same period, the announcement stated, the HIAS Immigrant Bank, which is the transmission department of the Society, forwarded to foreign countries $697,480.57 on behalf of 39,213 remitters.
