Yehudi Menuhin, 13-year-old American-Jewish violinist, will play with six of the oldest and most famous orchestras in Europe next year. To honor Menuhin, these orchestras have changed their long-standing rule which has not permitted outside engagements with the orchestra. Instead of merely playing a single concerto as a soloist with the orchestra, Menuhin will thus be able to play three at a single concert, with the symphony orchestra accompanying him.
The six orchestras which have already agreed to this are the orchestras of Hamburg, Berlin, Leipzig, Budapest, Vienna and Paris. It is expected that within the next few weeks other equally famous orchestras in Holland, Italy and possibly Spain will also agree to star Menuhin in this way.
