Six Jewish athletes, members of the Sports League of the Union of Jewish War Veterans, were invited today by German sports authorities to begin training for the Olympic Games of 1936, which are to be held in Berlin.
Several Jewish athletes who were invited to begin their training are acknowledged champions in their own fields. A Jew is also participating in the training for the Olympic swimming contests.
Jewish athletes were ousted from German sport clubs when the Nazis gained power. They were even forbidden to use the training facilities of the sport clubs.
Following numerous protests from international groups against the ousting of the Jewish athletes, German authorities declared that they were ready to provide facilities for Jewish athletes and to place them on the German Olympic team, if they qualified.
