A woman and six men were in jail today, at the Middlesex House of Correction, with six-month sentences at hard labor to be served, following their conviction for having demonstrated against the presence of Dr. Ernst F. S. “Putzy” Hanfstaengl when the Hitler aide attended commencement exercises at Harvard University. The offenders also were fined $20 each.
The visit of Dr. Hanfstaengl, piano-playing press agent for Nazism, aroused widespread opposition. Recently President Conant of Harvard announced rejection of his offer of a scholarship.
