A strike of 600 workers at the American Construction Company’s evaporating pans in the Dead Sea was called for today in protest against the employment of American personnel on heavy equipment.
The company gave as the reason its belief that the Israeli operators were not sufficiently efficient, a claim rejected by the Beersheba Labor Council which has announced support of the walkout. According to the company-union agreement, only Israeli staff should be employed on heavy equipment on the Dead Sea project.
