Twelve-hundred DP’s and refugees assembled at the Tirpitz Barracks here awaiting transportation to America, among whom are 600 Jews, yesterday observed VE-Day as a real festival of liberation.

Their joy was heightened by the announcement by military authorities that they will definitely sail on Saturday. Even the insufficient food at the staging area here, the military discipline, and the fact that they have been prohibited from taking along more than 65 pounds of luggage per person or any money has been able to dampen their spirits.

Plans have been made for a farewell ceremony aboard ship on Saturday morning, which will be addressed by Robert Murphy, American political advisor in Germany.
