A company of 600 young Jews has organized in Tel Aviv to be ready at an instant’s notice to aid the authorities in defending outlying Jewish colonies in the event of attack by Arab rebels.
Use of tear gas by troops and police was authorized by High Commissioner Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope. Official announcement of the authorization said it was “for the purpose of preventing as long as possible the usage of other measures that might lead to the loss of life or serious damages when restoring order.”
