About 6,000 French Jews, including some of the most influential and wealthiest in Paris, were rounded up by the German occupation forces in that city last Thursday, Friday and Saturday, for deportation to Eastern Europe, it was learned here today.
Among those rounded up were Eugene Dreyfus, former President of the Paris Court of Appeals; Judge Laemle, former president of the Seine Court, and the Bollack Brothers, among the most wealthy traders on the Stock Exchange.
Those arrested were picked up at down and taken in motor trucks to police stations. Later they were placed in a concentration camp within the city limits, pending deportation to Poland and German-occupied Russia.
It is learned that the figure may reach 8,000 to 10,000 before the arrests cease. Many of the victims slated for deportation are also being taken from Jewish concentration camps, it is reported here.
