Approximately-62,000 Jews entered Palestine in 1935, it was learned today, setting a new record. About 4,000 immigrated to the Holy Land in December.
The official Government gazette gives the November Jewish immigration figure as 4,212 including 562 who entered in the capitalist category.
The gazette announced a new law providing severer penalties for persons convicted of entering the country illegally, for persons aiding illegal immigration and for owners of ships bringing illegal immigrants to these shores. Previously the law provided for deportation and a maximum fine of $500 or six months in jail for illegal immigrants.
