The opposition of the Histadruth, Palestine Federation of Labor, to the new man-power law recently promulgated in Palestine, on the basis that this law hinders the mobilization of man power in the country was expressed today at the opening session of the 47th Histadruth conference. A memorandum to this effect has been submitted to the Palestine Government, it was reported at the conference.
Problems of the security of Palestine and of the Yishuv’s contributions to the war effort were discussed at today’s session of the conference which was opened by David Remez, Histadruth leader. He promised continued Histadruth aid to Russia, especially medical supplies, and appealed to the Jews in the democratic countries to give their maximum support to the Jewish defense work in Palestine.
The unprecedented achievements in Palestine war industry, was chiefly a result of Jewish efforts, were lauded today by the Palestine High Commissioner opening an industrial exhibition in Tel Aviv. More than 2,000 articles which are now being produced in Palestine are displayed at the exhibition in addition to strictly war products which cannot be exhibited for military reasons.
It was revealed at the opening ceremony that more than $64,000,000 have been invested in Palestine industry. Among those attending the ceremony were Frederick Vinant, representative of the American Government in the Middle East, and Lowell C. Pinkerton, U.S. Consul General in Palestine, as well as many high army officials, and members of the Jewish Agency.
