The United Jewish Appeal has announced the departure of 65 American college students on its sixth annual Students Mission to Europe and Israel. They represent 47 campuses and 41 communities throughout the United States and are traveling at their own expense, according to Paul Zuckerman, UJA General Chairman.
He said the young men and women were selected on the basis of their potential leadership on their campuses and in their communities and many will be serving this fall as chairmen of their campus campaigns. Zuckerman said the mission which will visit West Germany, Austria and Italy before arriving in Israel was “one of the most effective tools we have in helping develop future leaders of the American Jewish community.”
During their two weeks in Europe, the students will meet with Jewish community leaders and student groups and observe programs of the Joint Distribution Committee, the Jewish Agency, ORT and the United Hias Service. They will spend four weeks in Israel traveling and meeting with top level government and Jewish Agency officials as well as with newly arrived immigrants, Zuckerman said.
