A total of 68 Palestine policemen and British soldiers were killed during extremist attacks in the period of Sept. 9, 1945 to the same date, 1946, a government spokesman announced today.
He added that at least 19 of the attackers were also killed. The victims included 19 British constables, 10 Arab policemen, two Jewish policemen, and 37 soldiers.
Asked whether the government will grant legal status to recent immigrants to Palestine, the spokesman replied that 16,800 visaless immigrants for whom certificates have been allocated will be permitted to participate in the forthcoming census. He declared, however, that all other immigrants who have not received certificates but are in the country now, will not be counted in the Jewish totals.
