A considerable increase in the number of Jews who resigned from the Jewish Community during the past year is revealed in the statistics for 1931 made public today.
In Berlin alone 722 Jews left the Jewish Community as compared with an average of 575 for the last three years.
The number is also much larger than the percentage of either Protestants or Catholics who left their respective Communities.
Membership in the Jewish Community requires the payment of taxes and many persons, therefore, resign to avoid this payment.
