Over 800 prominent Jewish citizens of New York were present at the banquet given by the Young Judea in honor of Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver, Tuesday night at the Hotel Pennsylvania.
Dr. Simon Rothenberg, chairman of the Young Judea campaign to raise $50,000, was toastmaster. Emanuel Newman, executive secretary of the Keren Hayesod; A. C. Lamport, M. Turman, Maurice Samuel and Nathan Straus spoke.
Rabbi Silver, in an eloquent address, described the course of the development of the synagogue and i## importance in modern Jewish life. He urged concentrated efforts for securing Jewish education and environment for the Jewish youth of America, which is the purpose of the Young Judea.
Over $15,000 was raised at the banquet. Nathan Straus subscribed $2,500.
