Nearly 400 people from the Greater Hartford area will leave for Tel Aviv Jan. 23 to spend eight days in Israel as part of the Friendship Force program. At the same time, nearly 400 persons from the Tel Aviv area will come to Hartford.

The Hartford Friendship Flight, in which the 400 people signed up before they knew in which country their sister city would be, is one of the first in Friendship Force, a national program of exchange between American cities and cites around the world. Mrs. Rosalynn Carter, the wife of President Carter, is honorary chairperson of the program designed to promote peace and friendship in the world. In Connecticut, the honorary state chairperson is Dr. Thomas A. Grasso, the husband of Gov. Ella Grasso.

Each group of “ambassadors” from Hartford will live with a host family in the Tel Aviv area for four days and then spend the remaining four days either with another host family or traveling around the country on their own.
