Of the more than three million dollars which has already been contributed toward the $10,000,000 fund now being raised for the Boy Scouts of America, fully $800,000 or more than 25 percent has been pledged by three Jewish families.
This became known Monday night, at the 20th anniversary dinner of the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America, held at the Hotel Pennsylvania, after Walter W. Head, president of the organization, announced the list of contributors of $25,000 and over. The estate of Conrad Hubert, subscribed $500,000, Mortimer L. Schiff $250,000, and Mrs. Sigmund Eisner and family, of New York and Red Bank, N. J., $50,000.
Mr. Schiff, who is International Commissioner of the Boy Scouts, was one of the principal speakers at the dinner, which was attended by nearly 600 persons, among whom were consuls or other official representatives of 21 foreign nations.
The personnel of a representative campaign committee also was made public at the dinner. Among those representing Region Two, which includes New York State and New Jersey, are: Arthur Lehman, Mr. Schiff, Lewis L. Straus, Edgar S. Bamberger and Milton C. Guggenheimer.
